Apple's special anniversary edition iPhone 8 launching on September 12: Everything we know about the phone
Apple's iPhone 8 is launching on September 12. Last week,
Apple sent out media invites for the launch event, where the Cupertino major is
set to announce its tenth year anniversary special edition aka iPhone 8. It is
still not confirmed if Apple will really call it the iPhone 8 or name it
something else. Rumours suggest that Apple may simply name its anniversary
edition phone - iPhone Edition. Other rumours hint that Apple may call it
iPhone X or iPhone Pro. However, amidst all the rumours, iPhone 8 name is most
likely.
On the Sept 12 launch event which is take place at Steve
Jobs Theatre inside Apple's new campus, based in Cupertino, California the tech
company is expected to announce a range of products alongside its anniversary
edition phone. Apple is said to announce the successor of the current iPhones -
iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Going by Apple's strategy, the successor to the already
existing iPhones will be called iPhone 7s or iPhone 7s Plus. Apart from
iPhones, Apple is also expected to announce a new Apple Watch and an improved
version of Apple TV.
The upcoming iPhone 7s and 7s Plus are said to have a lot in
common to its predecessors. On the other hand, iPhone 8 is going to be a
special phone and is expected to come with a new design and features that are never
seen on any iPhone so far. It will come with a super expensive price tag --
around Rs 1 lakh -- while the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus may cost somewhat - may be
slightly more when compared to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. In other words,
the iPhone 8 is going to be special and will be the costliest iPhone ever.
Ahead of the launch, iPhone has already become the hottest
topic of discussion in the world of tech. Everyone is talking about the
next-gen iPhone. It is said that Apple's anniversary edition aka iPhone 8 is
supposed to be a game changer, in a way the original iPhone 10 years in 2007
was.
The iPhone 8 is said to be the star of the Sept 12 launch
event. Here's all we can expect to see coming with this special iPhone edition
next week.
iPhone 8. The name is still a rumoured one. Apple has still
not confirmed what it plans to call its anniversary edition iPhone. Most
rumours suggest that it will be called iPhone 8. But there are other
suggestions too. Some suggest that Apple may simply call it iPhone Edition,
this is because it's the anniversary edition iPhone. On the other hand, some
rumours hint at iPhone X. This is because X stands for 10 in Roman, which also
marks Apple's 10th year anniversary. Then there is a talk that this phone will
be called the iPhone Pro, because there is iPad Pro. Whether it is going to
call iPhone 8 or iPhone X or iPhone Edition, there is no doubt that this iPhone
is going to be a special one.
Going by the rumoured design, iPhone 8 will come with
completely new looks. The design will be something that we have never seen in
any other iPhone so far, or so suggest rumours. The iPhone 8 is expected to
come with two layers of glass with a metal frame joining them together. This
design could be similar to this year's flagship phones by Samsung or LG such as
the Galaxy S8. On the other hand, some rumours hint that Apple may bring back
the timeless design of the iPhone 4 for the upcoming iPhone 8.
The iPhone 8 will be different. Like the other iPhones,
iPhone 8 will not come with a physical home button. Rumours suggest that the
anniversary edition iPhone will instead come with a virtual home button which
will be placed under the glass cover on the screen.
The fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 8 is expected to move
to the rear panel. It will reportedly replace the Apple logo which usually sits
on the back cover.
Apple usually uses IPS LCD technology for iPhones, but with
iPhone 8 it will change. The iPhone 8 is most likely to come with an
edge-to-edge OLED screen. Rumours suggest that iPhone 8 will come with very
thin bezels and with a screen as big as 5.8 inches or 5.9 inches. iPhone 8 is
also expected to come with a screen with 18:9 aspect ratio, similar to the
display used in flagship devices by Samsung and LG aka Galaxy S8, S8+ and LG
G6.
On the camera front, the iPhone 8 is expected to come with a
much camera compared to the existing iPhone and also the upcoming iPhone 7s and
7s Plus. The anniversary edition iPhone is expected to come with dual camera
set-up, similar to that of the iPhone 7 Plus. Rumors suggest that out of the
two cameras of the iPhone 8, one will use a regular lens, while the other one
will include a telephoto lens. This will be similar to what users get in the
iPhone 7 Plus. The camera hardware of the iPhone 8 of both front and back is
said to be designed in a way that will enable the use of the phone as an
augmented reality device.
The iOS 11 and MacOS will be the software running the iPhone
8. the iOS 11 is currently available in beta.
The iPhone 8 is expected to be powered by Apple's next
generation processor -- A11 processor.
Theoretically, this will be the fastest
mobile processor, just the way A10 that is currently the fastest.
The anniversary-edition iPhone is likely to come with 3GB
RAM and at least 32GB internal storage.
Actually, 64GB internal storage more
likely.
The iPhone 8 is expected to come with the wireless charging
technology. And it will not come with 3.5mm headphone jack.
Apple's iPhone 8 is likely to support face recognition
technology as well. It is also said that with the face recognition technology,
users will be able to unlock the phone. Rumours suggest that iPhone 8 will
sport a sensor on the front panel to help users get better face recognition
even in low light situation.
iPhone 8 is expected to be the costliest iPhone till date.
It is speculated that iPhone 8 will comes with a price tag of around $1000,
which roughly translates to Rs 1 lakh. The prices that have been speculated so
far are: $999 for 64GB variant, $1099 for 256GB variant and 1199 for the 512GB
variant of the iPhone 8.
The iPhone 8, or whatever Apple decides to call its
anniversary edition, will be launching on September 12. Reports are that iPhone
8 will go on sale after September 23. A new report circulating online indicates
that pre-orders of iPhone 8 is likely to start from Sept 15 onwards.
