THE largest group of delegates to visit the Far North will
inject $50 million into the local economy and further boost the Great Barrier
Reef’s reputation as a tourism hotspot.
Up to 8000 Chinese delegates will touch down in Cairns for
the Amway China Leadership Seminar in April 2019.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland has worked on closing the
deal for the almost two years.
TTNQ’s business and tourism events director, Rosie Douglas,
said itineraries would showcase World Heritage areas, including the Great
Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics rainforest.
“Amway China delegates are global travellers who seek
experiences that motivate and excite,” she said.
“Our natural attractions, especially the Great Barrier Reef,
and the ability to offer personalised experiences were a key advantage in
securing this incentive program.”
The Amway delegates will travel in waves of 1000 people for
five days and four nights.
It comes as business events secured for the region doubled
to 46 last financial year.
“Hosting events such as Amway China not only raise the
profile of the region, but send a clear message globally that Cairns &
Great Barrier Reef is a credible world-class business events destination with
diverse experiences, excellent infrastructure and professional people,” Ms
Douglas said.
