If you are planning to buy Apple‘s latest flagship
smartphones iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, you should be handling them very
carefully. After we discovered earlier today from the drop test video, the
glass back on iPhone 8 Plus is not so ‘strong’, the smartphone is now said to
give its owner a major setback in situations of repair. A teardown performed by
IHS Markit, reveals that repairing an iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus can cost
around $247.51 (approximately Rs 16,000) and $288.08 (approximately Rs 19,000)
respectively.
Apple’s latest flagship iPhone 8 smartphones and the iPhone
X are clearly the most expensive iPhones ever, and the high-budgeted repair
cost comes as no surprise after all. “The added value went to memory, camera,
and processing. That’s where we can materially identify where they’ve improved
the overall product, and hence why they can command a higher price for it,”
Wayne Lam, an analyst at IHS, told Bloomberg.
According to IHS Markit, the 2017 iPhones use expensive
components which effectively surges the cost of repair. It is important to note
that the market research firm IHS Markit is not an Apple authorized source. The
only loose connection between the company and the research firm is that it has
been following Apple’s supply chain quite closely to give grounds to their
estimated price of repair.
As far as the availability of the Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone
8 Plus are concerned, pre-orders for the two smartphones are now open in India.
The new iPhones will be available for sale on September 29. The iPhone 8 and
iPhone 8 Plus prices start from Rs 64,000 and Rs 73,000. Whereas, the most
expensive iPhone X starts from Rs 89,990 and it will be available for sale from
November 3.
